Inspired by an article in an older Guidepost Magazine
There are basically 7 different types of prayer walking, each has a different purpose, often 2 or 3 can be combined into the same walk.
1. MEDITATION - after or before a stressful/hectic time, or just to clear your psyche for prayer and or clear thinking. The idea is to pick an area that is quiet with few if any distractions, where you can walk in peace, and calm your mind and spirit, to gain/regain peace of mind/spirit. For this you will use the same principles as for meditation/prayer
2. THINKING//Soul-Searching - Thinking is basically talking things over with yourself and the Lord, praying for each thing/situation as it comes up. Soul-Searching is basically the same as thinking accept much deeper. Where am I in my life? ---! ---! ---? How can I handle this? How did this happen? Lord what do you think ---? be quiet and listen!! Lord I need some help!! Thank You Lord!
3. STRENGTH - Often after an illness/injury of minimal activity, we need to get out and walk in order ti gain/regain physical/spiritual strength. So you can do much of your thinking and praying while walking, asking the Lord for and thanking His for strength.
4.GENERAL PRAYER - You are doing your regular daily prayers while you are walking.
5. GUIDANCE/DIRECTION - You are praying for direction in life; or a way to go about or handle a situation, while you are walking.
6. For a FAMILY/PEOPLE - You can pray for a family and or people in general as you walk by their homes, building, around their block, or think of them, or by walking through their town/village while your praying for them.
7. For GOD'S PERSON - You start praying as you walk into a village, asking God to lead you to the one who needs your prayers today. You may walk past hundreds of people before you come to the right one.
